2 Albums

We're putting together 2 charity albums for our new non-profit that helps girls around the world get into school (MillionGirlArmy.org | GirlsInSchool.org). One is an all-female album, one is a Christmas album, both are described in detail bellow. They are to raise money for kids, but not children's albums.

We're looking for musicians to donate COVERS of either music that HFA deals with (most music: http://www.harryfox.com/songfile/public/publicsearch.jsp), or music that's in the public domain.

We'll be putting both albums up on iTunes and marketing them ourselves. We will be printing physical CDs as well.

Everyone who gets a song on an album will get one physical copy of the CD, and we're willing to pay 10 cents per album sold. We're shooting to move 1,000 albums, so that would (for example), add up to $100. Or you can completely donate your song to us :)

If you want to dive in:
1. Make sure your cover song is handled by HFA (http://www.harryfox.com/songfile/public/publicsearch.jsp). Most songs are, but not all.
2. Email me (TuckerLFitzGerald@Gmail.com) to make sure no one else is covering it.
3. Record your song.
4. Email it to me for review.

On one hand, songs don't need grammy-quality sound engineering, but on the other hand, they need to be recorded reasonably well. We're fine with lo-fi (ie Mountain Goats) if that's your goal, just don't arrive there by accident.

Women's Cover Album

Submission deadline: June 6 2010

This album will be on the acoustic folk to hip hop spectrum. June Carter Cash to Lauryn Hill unplugged. We're ONLY looking for songs performed by female artists, COVERING songs written or primarily performed by female artists. We are especially interested in pro-women, girl-power songs, R-E-S-P-E-C-T. We would love some subversive covers of pop stuff (Pink, Beyonce, Spice Girls). But remember, we want to keep the album super-acoustic, organic feeling. If you want to cover Single Ladies, it needs to feel like Ani Difranco, not karaoke night. We don't want silly, and we're not even necessarily looking for fun. Sassy, confident, angry, hopeful, yes.

Idea list:
• I'm every woman -Chaka Khan
• Stronger - Britney
• I am woman - Check out Tanya Stephens version :)

2010 Xmas Album

Submission deadline: Sep , 2010

We're looking for 10 strong songs for a Christmas album. Think mostly acoustic, hipster Christmas. Maybe a postal-service esque electronic song. It needs to be more edgy than Hannah Montana's Christmas, but not more alternative than Sufjan's Christmas album. We need some fun, upbeat stuff. We need some peaceful stuff. We need a little sad stuff. We need some sing-along-kid stuff.

Don't be afraid of classics (Silent Night), but make sure you can breath fresh life into modern-classics (River, Happy Christmas(War is Over), etc) that everyone's covering if you want to try them.

We prefer familiar covers, but we MAY take an original song on this album.

We are particularly interested in:
  • Christmas Don't Be Late (Rosie Thomas' revised version, NOT the original)
  • Winter Song by Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson

A Girl's Place is in the School

We're a young non-profit that helps girls in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and South Africa get into school.

MillionGirlArmy.org | GirlsInSchool.org

"Giving the poorest girls in our world access to schools and education will have incalculable benefits to us all.

The fight against human trafficking, high infant mortality, extremist violence, poor sanitation, and crippling generational poverty is deeply linked to getting girls into school. The more education a girl has, the more likely she is to keep herself and her children healthy, to bring additional food and clean water into her community, to participate in sustainable agriculture, and to wisely advocate for a peaceful, just community.
